Marcellus Barnes
Cornerback, Class of 2024
McCallie School, Chattanooga, TN
6-2, 170
If you thought Virginia Tech was finished picking up verbal commitments on Monday, you were wrong. Shortly after Aidan Lynch made his announcement, Tennessee cornerback Marcellus Barnes committed to the Hokies. He is the 11th commitment of the 2024 class and the third defensive back, joining Joshua Clarke and Quentin Reddish.
On May 8, Barnes named a top seven of the Hokies, Florida State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Mississippi State, Michigan State and Baylor. He visited Blacksburg over the weekend and didn’t wait long afterwards to make his commitment.
Barnes is either a 3-star or 4-star recruit, depending on the service.
247: 3-star, No. 46 cornerback, No. 15 player in Tennessee
On3: 4-star, No. 132 player nationally, No. 19 cornerback, No. 2 player in Tennessee
Barnes took his official visit to Tech along with the Hokies’ three other most recent commitments, Gabriel Williams, Andrew Hanchuk and Aidan Lynch.

I attended Alumni Weekend and had the pleasure of speaking with Bud Foster. He’s very high on Coach Pry and said Hokie Nation needs to be patient and good things will happen. He went on to compliment last years recruiting class, and said this one would be special as well. Looking good so far!
Great news!
And the hits just keep coming!!!
Excellent recruiting!
Great start to our Mondays. Welcome to the Hokie Nation!!
Another great player joins Hokie Nation!
I think we have turned a corner – excellent job CBP and team!
There is a long road in front of us but it’s hard to argue CBP hasn’t turned the corner in recruiting.
Welcome to Blacksburg Mr. Barnes, I think you are going to love it here!
Making great progress!!! I’m excited about these new young men in our program. Step by step!!!
Coach Pry and his staff are working hard to show why VT is a great place to go to college to get a great life education and play football.
Wow what a Monday!
