Since the transfer portal opened, I have listed 61 players who Virginia Tech has been in contact with on our transfer portal page. The list grows daily and there’s a lot to keep up with. For most guys, there aren’t many updates after they initially enter the portal, so it’s really impossible to keep track of everything. Today, we’ll give you an update on the few guys we have heard something about, and talk about portal recruiting in general.

Last week, I thought there was a good chance that Wyoming’s Brendan Wenzel would join his sister Carleigh in Blacksburg, but that’s not going to happen. His six finalists — TCU, Creighton, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, SMU and Oklahoma State — suggest he wants to stay reasonably close to home for his final year of college basketball, which is understandable.

Secondly, since our last transfer portal article, the Hokies picked up a commitment from College of Charleston forward Ben Burnham, who will play the four for Virginia Tech. Burnham’s commitment is an example of how it’s impossible to know everything that’s going on. Before his commitment, there were no reports that he had been in contact with the Hokies. Just because a player doesn’t show up on our portal page doesn’t mean there hasn’t been contact.

With his commitment, Tech’s starting lineup would probably look like this if there was a game to play tomorrow:
