Monday Thoughts: The Glorious and the Ghastly

Rutgers Mascot Scarlet Knight Virginia Tech Monday Thoughts
Wouldn’t you love to slap that smug grin off his face? Alas, the Hokies could not. (Ivan Morozov)

For many years, as UVa football was sliding into the abyss under Mike London, Chris Coleman and I used to sit around the TSL office and talk about how difficult it must be for the staff at to continue to write articles about a  program that was falling off a cliff.

My guess is that it felt something like this.

That’s a little melodramatic, but this season is already a slog. As Andy Bitter pointed out in this week’s Five Thoughts, a loss to Marshall in the next game will leave the Hokies with the real possibility of a 1-5 start.

That would bring Brent Pry’s overall record to 4-13. We’ll see if that happens. For some perspective, as bad a fit as Mike London was at Virginia, I can only find one 17-game stretch where he went 4-13: the last two games of 2012 (0-2), all of 2013 (2-10), and the first three games of 2014 (2-1).
