That was a big ole bowl of “Hokie Nation needed that.”

Quick question: do you remember the last home football game Virginia Tech played pre-COVID? I don’t. I could have answered that question in a heartbeat in my youth, because I remembered those types of details more easily, but I don’t quite remember. I recall that Virginia Tech lost at Virginia and to Kentucky in the Belk Bowl in 2019, but I don’t recall the last home game before then.

Was it Wake Forest? Time to go look it up … ah, not quite. It was a 28-0 win over Pittsburgh, the last home game of Bud Foster’s Virginia Tech career. (You’d think I’d remember that, but I didn’t connect the Bud Foster dots.) Wake was the game prior to Pitt.

In any event, that seems like forever ago. In an interesting sidebar, our game recap from that Pitt win includes pics of three guys who are still on the team and played big roles in the UNC win: Norell Pollard, Tre Turner, and James Mitchell. Sometimes we feel like there’s absolutely no continuity on the team, but maybe there is.
