Virginia Tech’s 2020 football schedule was released this morning. Unlike most years, I really don’t have too much to say about. I think Tech’s schedule is fine. Sure, I could get out a magnifying glass and nipick certain things, but any writer could do that for any school. Generally speaking, I think the schedule sets up fine, and I’m happy with it.
I don’t particularly like the fact that the Hokies travel to Louisville and Pitt six days apart, and I wish the Hokies had more than one Saturday home game in October. However, packing 12 games into 13 weeks for 14 teams – or 15, if you include Notre Dame – is hard. Nobody’s schedule is going to be perfect.
If I were a Louisville fan, I could nitpick the fact that the Cardinals have to travel to Notre Dame the week before playing in-state rival Kentucky. If I were a Georgia Tech fan, I could nitpick the fact that the Yellow Jackets play four road games – UNC, VT, Pitt and Syracuse – in a five-game stretch before closing the season with three straight games against Notre Dame, Miami and Georgia. Point being, everybody could find a bone to pick with their schedule.
Therefore, this article will focus on the positives that I see when looking at the schedule. It’s also going to be rather short, because like I said, I don’t see too many talking points to dial in on.
