Part three of our series on Power 5 scholarship offers continues today with a closer look at Tech’s offensive efforts from 2012 through 2016. We’ll use the point system I created in this article to see how offensive recruiting has trended over a five-year span.
When you take a closer look at each offensive position from 2012 through 2016, two really stand out to me: wide receiver and offensive line. Those are the two spots where you can clearly see Frank Beamer’s coaching changes of 2013 making a huge difference. Those two spots have been trending up recently, and as a result Tech’s overall offensive recruiting is trending up (on paper).

Ironically, one of Virginia Tech’s highest-rated quarterback classes featured two players who never played a down at quarterback. Bucky Hodges and Carlis Parker made up the 2013 recruiting class, and they averaged 5.5 scholarship offers between them.
