That's not even close to true.
The system is to generate revenue for the involved schools. Period. At least at the major I-A level it is. Some schools are better than others about looking out for the educational life of the players, but when it comes down to it it's $$$ first, second, and last.
The notion of "preparing them for the NFL" is nothing more than a selling point to get recruits to sign. If Alabama could get away with nakedly chewing kids up and spitting them out in order to win a title I promise you that they would do it.
