And before you claim this will happen in college football, too...

I will say not a chance, at least at this present moment. The NFL loves the setup as it is. Even one NFL coach said this year college football is great for them because it’s nothing more than a “free developmental league.” NFL likes the current model, plus basketball and football are two entirely different sports.

A developmental league for football would be extremely expensive and more of a headache than success imo. Because of the physical aspect that one needs for the sport, college football is a great transition between high school football and the NFL.

The only concern for destroying football as a whole are the health concerns (I.e. CTE). You could make an argument the sport is declining (ratings have suffered, but that could be a number of reasons that don’t need to be debated here like politics, and less kids are playing); however, I believe that’s a passing ship. In fact, I saw something the other day, which may not be accurate, but they are expecting youth football to increase again, but you never know.

Football is king and it’ll be hard to bring it down as a whole, and I never see, at least not anytime soon, the NFL moving away from college football. But, the NBA on the other hand, is a completely different story in terms of their relationship with college basketball.
