My fear about that scenario is this:

What happens to the throw-aways from such an NBA "developmental academy"? In theory, college basketball players are working towards a degree (OK, it's tough to say that with a straight face, but hear me out), minus the ones who are obviously only there to satisfy the requirements of being NBA draft-eligible. But what happens to the kids who go the route of this proposed NBA developmental academy and simply can't make it as a professional basketball player? What's next for them?

I know that the percentage of college basketball players who play 4 years and actually graduate with a degree is probably fairly small, but at least there are SOME that have the ability to begin a career outside of basketball if/when that no longer becomes a professional option.

I will admit I haven't read anything about how the proposed NBA system would be set up, and I agree that I'm sick of the charade of "one-and-done" players being called "student athletes", but I do worry about the futures of the guys who skip college and don't make it in basketball.
