I (a Hoo) think it's equal parts, who is UVa? And who is Virginia Tech? A
UVa match-up has proved to be very unpleasant for a lot of teams this year. Yet there is this perception, this question: can UVa take it to the next level in the NCAAs? Some questions there.
Similarly, but along an entirely different vector, Virginia Tech has beaten the ever-lovin' snot out of some world-class teams (like, say, UNC, which beat Duke tonight), while it's lost to some more pedestrian teams. Some questions there.
And, then, we're in-state rivals. No question there. Just more intrigue.
And Virginia Tech has shown the ability to beat a lot of teams, which, on paper (credit Williams here), would appear to have the upper hand.
It will be an interesting game. And interesting to see how ESPN sells it.
But this is not just about the UVa surprise (unranked at season's start, about to be ranked #1). It's about Virginia (the Commonwealth, not the university) basketball. Y'all have been moving on up. So have we.
Too bad for the Carolina schools. I'm not shedding any tears for them.
