You are not wrong but perhaps a little late in realizing there are things
that teams do on home court/field that are intended to distract or impede the visiting team. Students waving and spinning placards and cut-outs has gotten obnoxious but is the norm. I do agree that the distraction has taken on a recent technical aspect. You are not allowed to use a laser pointer to distract players but use can use the scoreboard or message boards to flood the court with lights when the opposing team has the ball? FYI . . The NY Giants used to open the gates on the end of the stadium where the opposing team was kicking field goals so they would have a swirling wind effect. Did it work? Maybe; maybe not but it sure got in people's head.
