It should be in 2018, compared to 2017...

but there are too many questions to predict if the offense will be better than the 2016 offense.

1. There will be no proven standout WR to start the season. With that said, Hazelton and Farley could quickly become the top targets, but Murphy, CJ Carroll, Kumah, Grimsley, Savoy, Patterson and Denmark will give VT a well balanced group of WRs. Maybe Mitchell will be involved as a receiving TE along with Cunningham. That's about 12 (with the possibility of Turner and Simmons getting playing time). That's well into the range Cornelson wanted for total WRs.

2. QB play... a returning starter, or a better talent will be at the helm. A healthy JJ, with a season under his belt, is very good, and better than this past season. If Hooker or Willis can beat JJ out for the starting job... that's a big deal.

3. RBs. Well, we have been saying it couldn't be worse than last season, for several years, but it hasn't been noticeably better, either. Peoples' should be the anchor, with McClease and Holston, and maybe Wheatley and others, should make the running game better than last season.

4. OL... VT will miss Teller, and there's no replacing him. However, there should be five OLmen who work well together as a unit. In fact it seems like the VT may have enough depth to have a complete back-up line. The overall development of OLmen at VT is hitting a new level. It will be different without Teller, but it's not like VT will be starting a tFr. in vacancy Teller leaves.

Bottom line is the offense should be improved, and maybe significantly. Would still like to have a rJr. QB, but a healthy JJ who has had a great offseason, should be very adequate to take VT's offense to another level. Will it be enough to eclipse the 2016 offense? Who knows, but it will likely be a work in progress, where the end of the season could prove to be considerably better than the beginning. I still think 2019 is the year Fuente has everything in place, with experience, to unleash a dynamic offense, firing on all cylinders.
