Only now had a chance to read the rest of your post. Oh, I'm sure the post was a beauty! Our program is such an odd collection of folks. You have alumni like me who are hard core fans, but because of the size of our school and our demographics (e.g., sizable foreign student and out-of-state alumni base), at any game we represent only a small percentage of seats. Same goes for current students.

We depend SIGNIFICANTLY on the South Florida community at large. And because we are private, we lose large percentages of the local population who are more loyal to the state schools.

So, we take all comers as fans -- and that means no educational / financial or other tests are practically imposed in order to be a Cane fan. Moreover, more than almost any other university (USC is another), we appeal to a large segment of inner city families. In some ways that's a great thing, as it has exposed a large segment of folks to college football that had no interest pre-1980's. And some of our non-alum fans are the most loyal fans we have. But it also means that we get a variety of characters -- which we absolutely need to survive and be a viable program.
