I witnessed one here in VA


I've lurked on this board for decades, but I had to weigh in on this one:

In the 1960s, at the old GW High School in Alexandria (see "Remember the Titans") our QB, who doubled as the PK, got caught behind the line on a muffed field goal attempt. He then took off scrambling and drop-kicked a 33-yard score without breaking a stride. The refs were understandably riddled and had to huddle for several minutes before raising their arms in affirmation.

Weirdest play I ever saw, even fifty-plus years later.

BTW, the QB's name was Harley "Skeeter" Swift who went on to play for East Tennessee and the San Antonio Spurs in his other sport, basketball. Sadly, he passed away just this past year.
