Carribbean is an odd market...

We've rented several villas for a week in the Islands, including one on St. John. The house there, we were told, had cost cost over a million when it was recently built (this was in 2007) The house was pretty, had a great view, a tiny pool, but the road getting to it was like driving on a dry river bed...all rocks. The power seemed to go out for several hours each day, and the A/C in one section of the house didn't work the entire week we were there. Repairmen would come by, and say "We need to get some part, and it takes 2 or 3 days to have it brought from some other island". There was hardly any water pressure (water was collected from the roof into a cistern under the house). All in all, I was pretty unimpressed with St. John real estate.
