He was walking south out of Roanoke


He was heading to Raleigh. He met the trucker going from Philly to Cumberland Gap and Johnson City. So the trucker was heading west from Roanoke instead of south to Raleigh.

"But he's a headed west [so no ride to Raleigh] from the Cumberland gap to Johnson City TN [his next stops]"
