The thing about most of the good engineering departments...

they seem to want to do what they can to get everyone to drop out of engineering.

i don't remember how many of my 'pre-business' major friends at tech ended up switching.

my son is starting his freshman year at UF in 10 days or so. He wants to do biomedical engineering. He scored 1420 on SAT and has already taken over 80 credits (3.8 GPA in those classes at FAU...hoot hoot) as a dual enrollment student in HS...the professors at UF in BME told him that their job was to make him quit and transfer to something else. If he could pass the freshman classes they know he will succeed.

Well, they might not have said those exact words but that is the gist we and my son got during orientation.

had a family member do mechanical engineering at mercer in georgia...they did everything they could to get kids to pass everything.

neighbor went to GT...he said the profs made everything very very difficult.

just my anecdotes. ymmv.
