You had me until the "destroy the rest of his life" comment.

Not getting into the VT sports hall of fame is not going to destroy his life.

Last I checked, he has a pretty sweet life aside from having to deal with a little backlash over his history. Poor guy.

Let's not confuse giving someone a chance to build himself back up with celebrating the person. I actually don't care that he's getting into the HOF, but I also wouldn't have any problem with them saying his past prohibits it.
