"first guy we really had to get excited about in a while"
sure. There was pretty good excitement about Brenden Motley (2012), since he was a local kid and the first QB we signed since Ricardo Young.
2013 was paydirt when Beamer landed Bucky Hodges, a legit 4-star QB from Salem HS in Virginia Beach.
2014, with Hodges moved to TE in the reverse Logan Thomas move, Tech landed uber star 3-star QB Andrew Ford from Camp Hill PA. Ford was the guy that would sail Frank Beamer into retirements (and possibly win the elusive championship)
2015, Tech gets layered depth at QB, bringing in 4-star star Dwayne Lawson, from Tampa FL.
2016, Tech signs Josh Jackson and Jerod Evans at QB
2017, Tech signs Hooker, Bush and Farley
The point being, Tech has had no shortage of star high school QBs the last seven years. Hopefully Patterson will join the Hokie family. But Motley, Ford, Lawson, and Hodges prevent me from predicting or assuming any sort of success until he proves himself on the playing field.
There is always plenty of talent, question is if they can live up to the hype.
