I married 12-26-80 that year. Wife was originally from Charleston, SC, so we drove there (from Roanoke area) for first part of honeymoon.

I thought marriage--and honeymoons--should be "give and take." We do things you want, and we do things I want. So after four days at Charleston, we swung down to Atlanta to attend the Peach Bowl (Miami).

One of the disasters I had to smooth over was the hotel we stayed at was the HQs for Miami, so we moved across the street to the Hyatt (I believe). Another disaster was, in the course of changing parking lots, I left my camera bag on the pavement while packing the car, and it was taken. All photos gone.

My recommendation to all young people getting married and planning honeymoons: Do NOT ask for equality. Honeymoons must be totally according to the desires of the bride. Later the fella can pick his spots to "exert authority!"

She's in Heaven now, but I always remember that 1980 season for its ending!
