ESPN has lost me significantly as a viewer/listener of late but maybe...

....it's because they are ahead of the curve. Sometimes you have to look at things outside of your own limited world view.

I am not what you would call conservative by any means so any liberal bias ESPN may be showing wouldn't bother me. Yet I watch less and certainly, actively and with regret, listen to less of their radio programming. I'm basically down to LeBetard and some of the weekend programming, when I used to listen all day.

After giving it some thought, I think the problem is my age. I'm 50. The shows I don't like to listen to just don't speak in a language I want to listen to for an extended amount of time. It's a more youthful language. It's a more "urban", social media language. I know I'm treading on thin racial ground here and do truly respect the intellects of Stephen A Smith and Bomani Jones. I quite often agree with them on sports and other matters. I just can't listen to them talk for several hours. There is a similar affect with much of ESPN's TV programming. It doesn't seem like many of their shows are made for me, especially the newer ones.

They are getting ratings though I suppose so I have to conclude that this is a me problem. Those guys probably connect better with the audience the networks crave.

Just maybe ESPN is cultivating the younger audience they need and us older guys just don't like it. If so, I imagine there will be some growing pains with that strategy and they are experiencing that now.

Nothing stops time or change.

Just a thought.
