Isn't at least some of that a function of multiple visits?
Yes, casinos get old after the first few times. And if you're into camping, camping at the same site doesn't get old quite as badly.
But for the average Tech fan, who may not have visited either city more than 2-3 times, Vegas IMO provides more entertainment in a shorter period of time. They *haven't* been to every show. They *haven't* walked up and down the strip a hundred times. They haven't scoffed at the pizzeria at New York, New York serving pie with pineapples (ugh).
Gaslamp is nice. But if you don't think Vegas has more restaurants as good or better, you're not making the effort to find them. No: you're making an effort to actively avoid finding out about them, because they darn well advertise in hundred foot tall billboards all around town.
If you want to go camping or hiking, SD is better (unless you start talking about taking a short drive outside of Vegas proper, in which case Vegas still comes out ahead). Vegas EXISTS to entertain. San Diego is great, I love living here, but it's not an entertainment center.
