Slowing down the game on O does not always equal good D by the way.


As you point out UVA's low scoring offense is a product of taking the full 30 seconds on each possession, doing a good job on the boards, and then taking another 30 seconds on every rebound.

But it goes both ways... opponents score less because they have fewer possessions and that will always be true no matter the defense. I would never argue that UVA's defense is not good... it is. But in my humble opinion UVA's defensive effectiveness waned over the stretch of the season as opponents got used to (i.e., patient) with the slowdown. The "pack line" defense forces the other team to move the ball around more and when you're behind that can be frustrating.
