I love me some Buzz, but...

In order to be truly balanced in today's game i think you need a couple of productive bigs. Granted small ball with 4 guards lineups are all the rage but what do you do when you come across a team like FSU? If FSU wasn't terribly coached they should be elite 8. Buzz seems to want a bunch of athletic 3s - guys who are 6'7" who can play up tempo, take the ball up, score, etc. (see Jimmy Butler). Chris Clarke is like JB light, he just needs to develop an outside shot. Looking for a squad of 6'7" guys will leave you exposed to rebounding issues against bigger teams (especially when you don't move your feet or find a player to box out) as we have seen.

I never thought that Villanova would win it all wanting to play with 4 guard line-ups because it puts so much emphasis on shooting percentage but they did it last year and have a shot to do it again this year. I think Buzz wants to build a team like Villanova. We shot like Villanova this year but we didn't have the depth (nor the defense for that matter). I would love for Buzz to bring in a Joe Smith type guy (a la UMD 1993) as I think that would be a game changer for how he wants to play. We should get Blackshear back next year and maybe Hamilton (who is really just a tall body) and hopefully a bulked up Sy so maybe we get a bit more balance next year.

I can't wait to see what we do next year. I think we overachieved this year as a lot of our deficiencies (rebounding, defense) were masked by our high shooting percentage (from 3 and overall). I don't know if we can collectively shoot 40% from 3 again next year but man I hope we can get back to the NCAAs next year and win a game or two. The season doesn't feel over to me yet.
