What about non-profit work? What about working in government developing policy? What about legal work for affected communities? Social work?

Just because it isn't a career you deem important doesn't mean that it doesn't matter to many people.

And many universities have this program because it is important. Maybe you've never had a family member discriminated against for something like sexual orientation. Perhaps you haven't gotten a smaller raise than your male colleagues the year you were on maternity leave despite having yearly sales number that doubled the rest of the group's *combined*, but I have.

This is an important area to study. Just because you don't have an interest in it doesn't mean you should disparage people for it.
