I understand why you have that mindset and that's what the HC needs to work
to change. We really should all be thinking of the HC as a charitable organization, because that's what it is.
It is similar to healthcare fundraising in which someone funds a professorship or chair. A specific individual (a researcher or in our case a student athlete) benefits from the result of your generous gift. The "benefits" back to the donor should be a thank you note, maybe a dinner with the recipient and your name in the list of donors.
The thinking that giving to the HC is more in line with a ski trip than giving to a non-profit is exactly why gifts slow when the team isn't doing well and why people are so up in arms over their seating priority, etc. While I can greatly understand why you feel this way currently, I hope the HC can work on their messaging to begin to change this mindset.
