I am both encouraged and discouraged by the Grayson Allen situation. I am encouraged by the fact that those individuals in the know, with responsibility for the young man, have recognized that he needs counselling and possibly even medication. They have taken the correct steps for his future.

I am discouraged by the general discourse on this board. There are informed posters on this board, but there are many who are just plain backwards. As a society we have done a remarkable job over the last 50 years of calling out racism and effecting real attitude adjusments in the general populous. Mental illness, not so much. Many of you still hide behind your knee-jerk reactions and judgements that have no basis in scientific reality. For those of us that have struggled with and overcome mental illness, we resent your ignorance. Do yourself a favor and read something. Learn something. Have some compassion. Join the 21st century.
