How do you know that Clemson-GT and Syracuse-Pitt don't want to
keep their rivalries too? If they do, then the only ones set "free" would be BC, Louisville, UVA, and VT. At that point it would be kinda pointless to only have 4 schools without protected cross-division games since they would end up playing the 2 teams in the other division more frequently as if they were co-protected cross-division games.
If the ACC decides to realign the divisions or the protected cross-division pairings, then the only pairing that make sense for VT is a UVA-VT pairing.
