Via Floyd is curvy and slow. The quickest routes are the longest.
Either to Roanoke, down 220 to Greensboro and over, or, oddly enough, going the 'wrong way' away from Durham initially toward Wytheville, down 77, over to Mt. Airy/Greensboro, and in that way - that's actually the quickest way.
Or, you can go 220 to Martinsville, hang a left on 58, and then drop down toward Durham somewhere along Tobacco Road, too.
I've done them all. The Floyd drive would be nice to see the fall colors though, but if you have anybody that gets the least bit car sick, don't go that way!
