At the Gator Bowl back in '94 in Gainesville, a woman Vol fan just wouldn't shut up about Blacksburg being at the dead end of a dirt road - said it probably a dozen times over an hour. I finally had enough and turned around and said something to the effect of "That's rich coming from someone who's state is the setting for HeeHaw." Not content, I went on and enlightened her about Chris Craft and the NASA space program, and got a standing ovation from eight or ten rows of both Tech and UT fans.

About 10 years ago, I was at the Kingsport Marriott after watching a Tech game - wife and kids go to bed and I went down to the bar and there was a guy and his wife sitting at the bar in full Vols outfits. They're playing Vandy and its a tie game early in the fourth quarter. UT runs a play that Vandy stuffs, and the guy says - out loud (and I believe seriously) - "Why do they keep running that play that doesn't gain any yards? Why don't they just run their touchdown play more often?" Wife turns and looks at me with that 'I have to live with him' look, and the bartender smirks at me like ' yes, he's serious and he said that out loud.'
