Thoughts on Tennessee.... listening to a local call in show here in Bristol

all the UT fans are chalking this up to first game jitters and having the big head syndrome from being so hyped preseason.

And the fumbles may be rustiness for sure.

But I tell you, their OL isn't good. Appy State got pressure on Dobbs all night and he made some terrible throws when he was pressured, including one INT on a promising drive.

I was really worried about Dobbs being a senior and developing into a more rounded QB like Bryan Randall his senior year. With the exception of one pass I'm not horribly concerned about that now. He still appears to be a one trick pony.

The Tennessee fans are calling in complaining about the play calling and if you watched the game last night there were a lot of boos after runs up the middle that were stuffed and predictable play calling. Even the talking heads were saying it was a problem. I hope it's a problem that continues.

UT still shows an inability to handle a running QB and they get another one next week. Hopefully Motuapuaka has developed into a better LB and Bud's use of zone will diminish some of that for us against Dobb's.

UT's defense gave up 17 first downs, and 184 rushing yards vs. UT getting 19 first downs and rushing for 127 rushing yards. They ended up with a paltry 319 yards.

UT got lucky. If Appy State had a FG kicker that game is over before overtime. And that fumble in the endzone after Dobbs was absolutely ROCKED could easily have been recovered by APST.

And this is where Tech fans differ from UT fans. After a game like that against a team like Appy State the Tech fans would be ready to jump off bridges. After 4 quarters of Tweeting about how bad their own team sucked the delusion returned and the excuses started. Talk of how good Appy was and how UT was rusty, or buying into the hype started immediately. And withing minutes National Championship talk renewed once again.

This, my friends, is UT fandom. And you'll get to hear all the trash talk next week from students, parents, grandmothers, all wearing orange and CONVINCED their mighty Vols are going to beat us by 50.

Being from Bristol, on the Tennessee border, us local Tech fans have hated UT for years. I am convinced after next weekend, you too my friends will hate UT to the depth of your bones.

Nothing sucks like a Big Orange.
