I'm sure there we people at UCLA who complained about him, just as we had folks who complain about John L being different than the previous guy. UCLA had Dick Enberg calling games, they are accustomed to the best in the country. Not saying that Roth isn't on par, but it might take a few years to establish his media cred in the new market.

I'm also sure he didn't have the same level of social access with the head coach, AD, and School President he enjoyed at VT. UCLA was probably a very glitzy, but also very lonely experience for someone who is accustomed to having a large number of friends, a strong support system, and a fan base they recognized his voice before then even sit eyes on his face.
