I have some good news for you.
I'm also a Islay fan. I love Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Caol Ila, and the rest of the Islay malts. There is an American whiskey that can stand with these smoky, peated single malts. It's called McCarthy's, from Clear Creek Distillery in Oregon. It's very similar to the 10-year Laphroaig, maybe a little sweeter and smoother. The cost, at least here in NJ, is about $45 a bottle. You can also buy straight from the distillery. If you haven't tried it, I'd recommend giving it a shot. It's damn fine.
