I was also there and remember it slightly differently. In the question and answer session someone asked Ali to demonstrate the Ali Shuffle. He agreed, took his coat and tie off, and then started jumping around on stage. But he quickly stopped saying this is no good and then "send me the biggest guy you got," so up came Charlie Lipscom the center of the basketball team who was probably the biggest student in the school.

So Ali and continued to jump around with Lipscom just standing there and Ali then said "This is no good, throw a punch." Lipscom did and hit Ali right in the face cutting his lip. Charlie was so scared he ran off the stage but Ali couldn't stop laughing, brought Lipscom back up on stage and signed a picture for him in his own blood.
