And that's where it's a sticky wicket
For it seems a lot of these people who made the large donation and now may only do the maintenance fees were pitched this by the Hokie Club with those exact promises. "We need money now. Do this over five years, and going forward you'll only have to pay the maintenance fees!" So some did $50,000 over five years instead of, say, $5,000 a year, because they knew it'd even out over the years as they continued to maintain their account.
Only now, they're being told that their big donation doesn't mean a thing going forward -- except that they'll get first pick of nosebleed or endzone seats, unless they pony up more cash.
Again, I get the "what have you done for me lately" aspect. And the need to catch up. But I just have a problem with (1) that promise that people were allegedly made and (2) the fact that this is also affecting people who are currently in the middle of a five-year large payment. I just feel something should have been (and still should be) done as at least a partial make-whole offer.
