As Hokie fans, we've been darn lucky. Stadium expansion, ACC/ESPN revenues (even though we complain constantly about game times), the benevolence of some major athletic contributors, (and Michael Vick) have enabled all of us to come along for the ride of a very successful athletic program. Regardless of the size of our Hokie Club donation (if any) or how we acquire our season tickets.

But if we want to get to where I think we all want to be, we have to change. We all know the line - insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results - and that definition is perfectly apt for some of the discussions which are occurring here. I don't know how we get from "here to there" without doing something bold and dramatic.

Even though some Hokies are acting like Philadelphia sports fans, I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the clear majority reaction (some on the TSL Board notwithstanding) is actually more positive towards the new plan than I thought it would be. And props to Atlee Hokie for making clear that good seats in Lane Stadium are available for purchase with ZERO additional Hokie Club donation.

For those who believe dropping out is the best course and then watch the rest of us have fun while you're at home raking leaves, I offer this proposal. The least you can do is to replace the contribution you've been making. Help us reach the goal of 14,000 Hokie Club members by recruiting enough members to meet or exceed the contribution you will no longer be making. Doing so will not cost you one additional cent, but instead will help create the kind of sustained giving which Virginia Tech athletics needs to succeed in the long term.
