Is FSU the exception to the rule though?

I ask because Cali, Florida, and Texas are considered to be the hotbed states when it comes to recruiting. So back in the 70s, when FSU and even Miami came on the scene, it was easier for program to have a rags to riches story especially if the school was located in one of those states. If a program isn't located in one of those states, then is today's road easier, harder, or the same as FSU's road back in the 70s?

As far as South Carolina goes it may have a larger revenue stream than some schools. However, most wouldn't consider South Carolina to be a blueblood. So I am not sure if South Carolina's revenue stream is on par with the bluebloods, but it may be close. Keep in mind the "revenue stream" I am talking about it not just the conference's TV contract. It is all the sources of revenue for the athletic program.
