I lived in Texas for 20 yrs and I' d still think of GA Tech first followed by Texas Tech.

Consider that Auburn was previously known as Alabama Polytechnic Institute. There's only one Auburn hence no identity crisis.

Forty-six years ago or longer, I thought VPI and VA Tech were two different schools. Dr Robertson made a comment once that VPI almost got the rights to Va State University which may have been around the time they renamed to VPI&SU. Not sure what era Dr Robertson was referencing. We created much of the confusion regarding the name.
