If he is transferring for football reasons, then playing time may not

be the reason. A reason could be that he considers himself to be a receiving TE and the coaches have indicated to him that the TE isn't utilized as much in the passing scheme. If that is the case, then maybe he doesn't want to share playing time and/or the number of targets to the TEs. Assuming the offense is similar to what Memphis ran last season, then here are last season's stats for Memphis TEs.

A. Cross, SR, 10 games, 25 receptions, 229 yds, 3 TDs, 1 carry, -2 yds
S. Dill, FR, no stats
G. Gran, FR, no stats
T. Kolodny, JR, no stats
D. Montiel, JR, 7 games, 10 receptions, 155 yds, 3 TDs
N. Raby, FR, no stats
R. Young, SO, 9 games, 1 reception, 29 yds, 1 TD

Now I will admit that I only got to watch 1 or 2 games last season. However, I don't recall seeing Memphis running a lot of 2 TE sets outside of the red zone or at least it didn't seemed to be a heavily used formation (compared to VT the last couple of seasons). Since he is graduating in May, then he can play right away for TAMU. Not only does he have the opportunity to be the starter for 2 years, he could end up being a focal point in TAMU's passing game. At least I think TAMU uses the TE as much as VT did the last couple of seasons under Beamer.
