It also regressed because the backups for Maddy and Nicholas

weren't capable of putting sufficient pressure on the incumbents.

I think we are okay at DT but without Maddy, we are limited in upside. You and I have been around too long to put much faith in the Tim Settle phenomenon. Baron looks like a good player to replace Marshall, but I still think Marshall was a better player than Baron ever will be. I like Nigel Williams, but he's a poor man's Luther Maddy. Walker can add some value at DT. Without Maddy, the DT's are worse.

At DE, it's Nathaniel Adibi/Ron Cook bad. Nicholas was hurt which cost him about 5-7 sacks. Why was he out there? There was nothing behind him. Ekanem then struggled as Dadi struggled. Mihota looks like a nice guy, but he's not John Engleberger. He's a space-eating DE...if such a thing exists it's not particularly useful. Hopefully Hill is amazing after the knee injury, but that's not an easy injury to overcome at DE.

The DL wasn't good last year. 75% of those players return, the 25% not returning were the best players. Looking at the returning DL, I don't see a lot of upside. Who is a potential All-ACC player on the DL? Ekanem. That's it.

Deon Clarke was a frustrating player his senior year, but he made a helluva lot of plays in his Jr and Sr years. If they could, they may prefer to move Edmunds3 to DE but I'm not sure they have someone to fill the Backer position. Maybe Lydon can play Backer and Motu at MLB. I'm generally a Motu supporter, he became the scapegoat last year, but even I can admit that he was maddeningly inconsistent. I like Shegog a lot, but how much will he be on the field?

The confidence I have in Edmunds2/Facyson/Clark/Alexander (w/ Mook/Stroman) DBackfield is somewhat muted by the loss of Gray. No matter what, new coach will cause some transition.
