For whatever reason the D line as a whole underperformed, after being hyped as "potentially" one of the best ever. I don't blame the D coaches for getting excited about that potential, but I hope a lesson was learned. In the future maybe keep expectations low and let the guys earn the hype. Beamer was usually pretty good at that.
