It only comes to $2.5million. Fuente alone makes more than that.

Despite what they try to put out there, these P5 schools are making a ton of dough from athletics. And that has especially become true recently due to networks and Playoffs. I wouldn't mind the new breakaway league capping coaches' salaries. Cap head coach pay at $1million and pay assistants $250K-$500K. That's it. The Sabans of the world can find their way to the NFL.

Anyhow, a new breakaway league could make its own rules, rules that are much more realistic and just. And they could also be much more serious about enforcing rules than the NCAA ever could be. Auburn is not going to get anything over on Ohio State and Oregon. They'll get fined back into 1950 if they start throwing illegal benefits at players.

And I don't think Swimmers and divers could try to get paid the way football and basketball would. I wouldn't care if VT competed in swimming and diving against the JMUs, UNCAshvilles, or William and Marys of the world. Make those sports what they are, amateur/intramural type affairs. Those are great athletes no doubt, but those folks are obviously not in it for money. Nor do they make money. What those athletes and coaches do is an entirely different animal than bigtime college football and basketball. Anyone with a set of eyes can see that.

Perhaps this breakaway league can get some dough from the NFL. The NFL is making out like bandits by not having to field expensive farm teams. Make the NFL pay these 65 teams $2.5 million each to cover it for all I care. These P65 teams have leverage here.

And BTW, they also have a ton of leverage in congress. Who wants to be the Rep from South Carolina who proposes legislation that would negatively effect Clemson or USCE football?

What we all know for a fact is what we are currently doing does not work. I LOVE college football and basketball, but there's a certain level of sleeze all of us have been forced to stomach. Things like jock classes, bagmen and $100 handshakes occur everywhere, even at our beloved VT. I say we just get all this stuff out in the open and start over. Rethink these things in a major way. Ohio State football has a lot more in common with Cleveland Browns football than it ever will with Ferrum Football. Let's be realistic about things for once.
