Have a gut feeling...


Once I saw that Galen Scott was coming as a position coach (one without a position), I started to ponder this very question. My thought is that Bud agreed to stay on board for several reasons: 1) he is making a good salary, 2) he wanted to make the departure of Beamer less drastic for the program, 3) he wanted to help the "new" guys become established as not "new."

I think that he stays about two years and then possibly looks elsewhere. If he isn't interested in going to another program then I could see him sticking until the end of his contract (assuming he and the new folks gel).

On a side note, I have no idea why we have a yearly "retention" bonus for him - it all gets paid during the football season so it's not retaining him beyond that season. It must be more difficult to get salary increases approved so they called it "retention." He deserves the full $900K but how they got to that figure is interesting.
