I TOTALLY AGREE! When determining which object is inherently more deadly...
...we should probably look at the prevalence of the object and the number of deaths associated with it.
Number of Automobiles in US: 253 million
Number of Fatal Automobile Accidents: 32,675
Fatality Rate: 32,675 / 253,000,000 = .000129
Number of Firearms in US: 310 million
Number of Gun-Related Deaths (11,208 homicides + 21,175 suicides + 505 fatal accidents): 32,888
Fatality Rate: 32,888 / 310,000,000 = .000106
You might argue that automobiles get "used" more than guns, which is obviously true -- but their more frequent use is also part of what makes automobiles more inherently deadly.
Regardless of intent, the likelihood that any one automobile will be involved in a person's death is greater than the likelihood that any one gun will be involved in a person's death.
