Many considered 2016 a "punt" due to so many top in-state guys either committing early elsewhere or not giving VT a serious look anyway. The HS these kids were coming from this year also was not a plus. Consensus is 2017 will be a much friendlier year due to a richer in-state talent pool and relationships.

People forget that certain HS are friendlier to VT than others and have better relationships. This year was a perfect storm of that because most of the top talent we weren't positioned all that well for. Next year there are some super talented kids in places we have pre-existing relationships and history.

Fuente has had to go find guys elsewhere to fill the needs. Was their a QB as talented in VA as Evans that he could've landed? No. So people suggesting we should take VA or bust are probably people that don't follow recruiting except for a few weeks in January and signing day
