1986 Peach Bowl.....

After each team swapped fruitless possessions, Tech took over on its own 20 with 1:53 left. The Hokies quickly moved the ball to the State 37, where they faced a third-and-2 with 38 seconds left. With no timeouts, Tech inexplicably ran a pitch to Williams that resulted in a 1-yard loss. More importantly, Williams didn't get out of bounds to kill the clock.

"I started screaming at Maurice to 'lay down, lay down!' We had to get that clock stopped," running backs coach Billy Hite recalled.

"I had a little cramp," Williams said. "I grabbed my leg and then the coaches ran out. They said I might as well stay down."

Was Williams actually hurt? Not hardly.

"One of the worst acting jobs I've ever seen faking an injury," a laughing Kinzer said. "I'm sitting there on the sideline and I can't believe they didn't call a penalty on him because it was blatant as all get out."
