I had a boss who did that when I was relatively young in my career. He ran
the department and was responsible for bringing in the work. He was setting up to open his own firm and was marketing not only new clients for himself but current clients to switch when he finally announced. When he did leave, there was little backlog remaining and miraculously he had several contracts in hand. Plus the biggest client we had announces that he insists that our firm owners must subcontract to his new firm to do the work or he’s cancelling the contract. What a mess. Our staff of 8 were all close to losing our jobs due to that unethical, self-centered a-hole.
