It will never happen but I would prefer they have minor leagues (similar to


major league baseball), where folks who are simply looking for professional tryouts, with no interest in getting an education or actually being students just like everyone else, can go ahead and go do that. I would rather see college being about folks there to get an education, and being part of a community, and scholarships being an opportunity to help a student and their family, in terms of being able to afford college and get that education.

I grew up primarily watching pro sports and hardly any college at all. Since graduating back in 1990 from VT, I am now to the point that the MLB (and sometimes the NHL) is all I watch in terms of pro sports - NBA and NFL are completely gone. I enjoy college football and basketball, though it is increasingly going the way of pro sports, and my interest is slowly beginning to wane for that reason. I will certainly never again donate funds to any college's athletic department, aside from purchasing tickets/attending games or purchasing any merchandise that I might want to wear.
