Either way, it was a dumb statement and it (obviously) has enraged Hokie Nation - particularly on Twitter. The fact that he's on there arguing with a reporter and replying to fans to 'take a break' shows he is not thinking straight right now. Best thing he could've done is keep off Twitter. After he acted like he 'blocked' that noise out anyway. He's proving that he does (in fact) read those Tweets.
