1- Aluma has been a big surprise to me. I expected him to help us a lot on D and with rebounding, but did not know he would bring this much offense.
2- that leads me to another thought since both Aluma and Cattoor came with Coach from Wofford and I believe both were lightly recruited. This shows CMY can identify talent and this bodes well for recruiting success at VT. We likely won’t land many top 20 type players in the near term...but I am very very confident that this staff can find guys that can develop and compete at the highest levels of college basketball.
3- Coach has these players motivated and having fun and just seems to Coach with a great balance of intensity and seriousness and yet while making the team environment great for the players. I think the improvement in the off-season in several of the guys evidences how motivated they are as well.
4- I was a Buzz Williams fan although didn’t like the way he left VT. But for VT . . . Give me Coach Young any day. He seems like the perfect fit and he wants to be here and has assembled an excellent staff.
5- Couple player notes: Mutts is fun to watch: just looks very rangy and athletic and plays with great intensity. Alleyne has taken a big step forward based on the limited early evidence. Bede And Diarra compliment each other well.
6- All that said, as many others on this board have pointed out, we need to be patient with this team and not get too high on them. They need to stay humble And hungry and keep that underdog mentality to work hard everyday to get better.
